LIAR OF THE WEEK: FDA Over Processed Food Carcinogens

By Cheri Roberts of Challenging the Rhetoric and Cheri Speak

It seems we hear of a recall by a food or drug manufacturer weekly, but it’s a rarer day when a big dog organization comes in and makes a confession. The World Health Organization (WHO) recently reclassified processed meats (bacon, lunch meat, hot dogs, sausages, etc.) as carcinogens. For decades the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved these, and other, foods as not harmful for Americans to ingest.

In a statement, Dr. Kurt Straif of the WHO’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) in Lyon, France said,

For an individual, the risk of developing colorectal cancer because of their consumption of processed meat remains small, but this risk increases with the amount of meat consumed. In view of the large number of people who consume processed meat, the global impact on cancer incidence is of public health importance.”

When tobacco companies got caught with their pants down there were massive lawsuits. Will people come forward and file suits against the authority on what is and is not OK for us to eat? And they still say Aspartame and GMO are just dandy. Eat up kiddies!

Shame on you FDA. Oops, you did it again! You are Challenging the Rhetoric’s LIAR OF THE WEEK.
