Currently Challenging the Rhetoric is volunteer based. Please understand, this is no reflection on you or your talents as a potential contributor, simply a reflection of the financial reality of a start-up independent media outlet. All costs related to the show are absorbed by donors or the show’ host. As the site and show continue to grow and long-term sponsors come on board CTR will be in a better position to offer paid opportunities and will.

If you like what you see here, and you feel the potential, this is something you want to get in now and grow with.

For now, all contributions are on a volunteer basis so if you are still interested in becoming a part of the team, here is what we are looking for…

MASTHEAD POSITIONS & Attribution

  • Producer: One position open – Producer will work directly with Host handling guest scheduling, show log and more. The Producer will be featured on the show/website masthead with [up to two] link-backs to their own personal/professional pages off-site.
  • Copy Editor: One position open – The Copy Editor will work directly with the Editor in Chief and handle the majority of copy editing accepted submissions. The Copy Editor must have excellent spelling, grammar and online platform formatting skills, particularly WordPress. He/she will also help organize and manage contributing writers. The Copy Editor will be featured on the show/website masthead with [up to two] link-backs to individuals personal/professional pages off-site.
  • Staff Writers: Five Positions open – Writers new or old makes no difference. It is the content that counts. All writers must have a firm grasp of the English language; proper spelling and grammar is required and clean-copy provided to the editor on deadline. CTR seeks only fact-based articles that genuinely ‘challenge the rhetoric’ and that are current. Full credit/byline given. Writers are featured on the show/website masthead with picture, bio and [up to two] link-backs to individuals personal/professional pages off-site.   • Staff Graphic Designer: Two positions open – Graphic designers will create design and images as needed for website, show and marketing. Full ‘image credit’ given. Graphic Designers are featured on the show/website masthead with [up to two] link-backs to individuals personal/professional pages off-site. Please see the submissions guidelines.
  • Staff Photographer: Two positions open – Photographers will capture images as needed for website, show and marketing in addition to covering live events or locals as available. Full ‘photo credit’ given. Photographers are featured on the show/website masthead with [up to two] link-backs to individuals personal/professional pages off-site. Please see the submissions guidelines.
  • Videographer: Two positions open – Videographers will capture video as needed for website, show and marketing in addition to covering live events or locals as available. Full ‘video credit’ given. Videogrophers are featured on the show/website masthead with [up to two] link-backs to individuals personal/professional pages off-site. please see the submissions guidelines.
  • Social Media Manager: Two Positions open – CTR heavily relies on social media for outreach as well as for promotion. The social media manager would be responsible for making a required number of posts/tweet/shares per day a min of three days per week on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn and Google+. The Social Media Manager must have a working knowledge of social media, it’s uses and is willing to learn more about becoming more effective. For transparency, Social Media Managers will be included in the show/website masthead.
  • Marketing Assistant: One position open – The Marketing Assistant will work directly with show’s creators, producers and social media managers. The Marketing Assistant will execute marketing plans by creators as well as seek out viable opportunities and propose new plans to creators. For transparency, Marketing Assistance will be included in the show/website masthead.

To volunteer, apply by sending a cover letter addressing which position you are applying for and why. The cover letter should be in the body of an email. Attach your resume and samples if applicable (Word or PDF only). Be sure to include your real name, phone number, email address and any links to you or your work. In the subject line, please put the position you are applying for in CAPS.

If you are interested in becoming a sponsor or have questions about advertising please contact CTR and put “SPONSOR” or “ADVERTISER” in the subject line. Please know, CTR is committed to independence from corporate or governmental entities including PAC’s. We do not accept political dollars or ads and retain the right to refuse any partnership that does not adhere to the positioning of the show.
